PROFITABLE CROPS TO PLANT 2023

*PROFITABLE* CROPS TO GROW IN THE YEAR 2023 *ON A SMALL BUDGET

Vegetable farming is one of the silent money makers in Kenya. In a country made up of over 40 million people of different tribes and ethnicities, whose major common denominator is the use of vegetables in preparing their food, vegetable farming in Kenya is indeed very profitable.

Have you ever considered vegetable farming as an option for building a business?

The term ‘Farmer’ used to be heavily associated with poverty and illiteracy. But that was then, not now anymore when farmers are becoming the richest people (I heard that one of the richest men in China is a farmer) and living the best of life probably.

 List of Most Profitable Vegetables.

 *1. Mushroom Farming*

One fact that I have known for a very long time is that mushrooms are very easy to grow in a small space and expensive to buy in the supermarket.

A farmer can sell one kilogram at Sh 600 to consumers and this translates to 1.2 million KSHs in revenue

 *2. Lettuce Farming*

Lettuce is one of the popular vegetables in our country and around the world due to its high nutritional value.

It is considered superior because it is high in vitamin C and dietary fibre. One head of Lettuce broccoli goes at Sh70 to Sh100. On a good month, you can make Sh100,000 to Sh150,000 profit from Lettuce farming.

 *3. Cilantro ( Dania )*

Dania is very easy to grow and it’s in great demand at the moment in Kenya.

It contains protein, vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates.

It helps reduce coughs, skin disorders, diarrhoea, cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Imagine if you buy Ksh 1000 Dania seeds can give a total revenue of KSh 30,000 to 45,000 within 45 days.

 *4. Sukuma Wiki – Kales*

Sukuma wiki is profitable because one harvests for up to five months every week as long as you control pests and apply manure.

The crop is easy to grow and manage. You can get between Sh20,000 and Sh36,000 from the about nine sacks.

 *5. Pumpkin Vegetable*

Its leafy green leaves have on high demand for a long time in Kenya. You can make an average of 40,000 in a good month from this venture.

 *6. Cabbage Farming*

Cabbage farming in Kenya is very profitable because the vegetables are very popular.

An acre of cabbage can hold about 19,000 plants which translates to a profit of more than Ksh 400,000 on a good season ( 2 months)

 *7. Spinach Farming*

Spinach is mostly grown because of its succulent edible green leaves.

They are rich in vitamin and minerals, especially iron.

The crop can be harvested for a period of 6-12 months.

After deducting expenses, on a good month, you can make close to 100,000 from spinach farming.
